Dr Gupta’s on HIV And Penile Fungus Infections

As a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that affects the immune system, HIV is a serious condition that requires careful management. However, along with the well-known risks of HIV which is a Sexually Transmitted Disease, such as compromised immune function and increased susceptibility to infections, there is also a lesser-known connection between HIV and penile fungus infections. This blog post will explore this link in detail and provide important information on how HIV can impact the risk, symptoms, and treatment of penile fungus infections.

HIV Infections

An estimated 33 million people are Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infected around the world as per the World Health Organization. HIV disturbs the immune system of the body. In other words, it mitigates the body’s ability to fight against contamination and illness. Untreated HIV kills CD4 cells, the immune cells in our bodies. With the protection against diseases removed from the body, the body becomes more prone to various infections and cancers.

Transmission of HIV:

HIV cannot be transmitted through casual contact or communicated in the air or water. It is passed on through bodily fluids:

Cure of HIV:

There is no medication available for the complete elimination of HIV. A combination of medicines is used to suppress the growth of the Virus, allowing the patient to lead a normal life, hence reducing HIV-induced deaths all over the world. Expert sexologist claims the treatment aims to stop the growth of the Virus by suppressing the replication. Sufficient suppression of the Virus reduces the risk of onward transmission to sexual partners and the unborn children of HIV- infected mothers.

Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART)

These are medications used to treat HIV. They successfully control and limit the Virus; it reconstitutes the patient’s immune system, can increase the CD4 count, and reduce the amount of HIV; treatment begins when the CD4 cell count falls below 350/ microlitre of blood.

There are about 20 drugs to fight this Virus. Some anti-HIV drugs are being used for other viral infections, for instance, Hepatitis–B infection. Zidovudine, Lamivudine, Efavirenz, Nevirapine, and Lopinevir have commonly used drugs.

Best sex doctors have pointed out that there is no need to worry; no one dies of AIDS nowadays.

Penile Fungus Infections

Fungus infections on the Glans penis are a common occurrence. It is called Candidiasis, and the fungus is called Candida Albicans. The most common causes are – white discharge in women, diabetes, use of broad-spectrum antibiotics or immunosuppressive drugs. Medicines like Clotrimazole, Ecoconozole, and Micoconozole are used in such cases. Proper maintenance of local hygiene is also important.

Almost all diabetic men and women get this infection. Candida is also a very common infection that causes white discharge in women. White discharges in women can be due to various reasons, but if it is due to candida fungus, then drugs like Clotrimazole, Ketoconazole, and Isoconazole are effective.

Cure Of Penile Fungus Infections

In women, oral and vaginal treatments are both required due to repeated infections, as the fungus can move from the intestines to the vaginal mucosa.

Oral fluconazole is rarely resistant to the causative fungus Candida Albicans, so it is the most effective. Oral treatment consists of Fluconazole, Ketoconazole, and Micoconozole. Oral treatment, if started, should be continued for a minimum period of three weeks.

Earlier Candida Fungus infections were treated by the compound Benzoic acid (Whit field’s ointment), but treatment with the current drugs is more effective. So these days most sexologist doctor prefers administrating Itra Conozole or Terbinafine.

In conclusion, there is a clear link between HIV and penile fungus infections. Individuals with HIV are at higher risk of developing penile fungus infections due to their weakened immune systems, and these infections can lead to more severe complications if left untreated. Moreover, penile fungus infections can also increase the risk of HIV transmission during sexual activity. Therefore, if you have HIV, it’s crucial to be aware of the increased risk of penile fungus infections and to work closely with a healthcare provider to manage and treat any infections that may occur. Regular monitoring and proper treatment can help prevent complications and promote overall sexual health in individuals with HIV.
